Hopi Ear Candles Explained

Have you heard of Hopi Ear Candles?  It’s a natural alternative to help give relief to many ear problems and is also known as Thermo-auricular therapy.  Regular ear candling treatments are thought to provide relief from ear conditions including compacted ear wax, vertigo, balance in the ears, colds and flu, ear noise, sense of smell, swimmers ear, sinusitis, headaches and migraine, stress and is also a very relaxing peaceful treatment too.

The actual ear candles are 22cm long, hollow cotton tubes which have been soaked in natural ingredients such as beeswax, honey and herb extracts. I use Biosun traditional candles which have a filter in the bottom to prevent any candle residue from entering the ear and also conform to safety standards.

The candle is lit and placed gently into the top of your ear.  The warm air of the candle is drawn down gently into your ear canal creating a mild suction effect, which gives your inner ear and sinuses a soothing massage whilst drawing out impurities.

Each ear is done separately whilst you are lying on your side in a comfortable position.  I always fit the candle in your ear first before lighting to ensure that you are happy and it feels comfortable. During the treatment you will probably hear crackling or popping sounds and feel warmth as the vapour is drawn into your ear. It’s deeply relaxing and you may find yourself drifting asleep before the candle has finished burning!  Each ear takes about 10-12 minutes depending on your ear condition.

Prior to any treatment, we will discuss any medical conditions or problems with your ears that you may have to ensure that the treatment is safe to proceed.
